Saturday morning we decided that we were going to really explore the area. So a group of us all piled into the car and headed north into New Mexico to check out White Sands National Monument. I loved driving through Texas and New Mexico and just seeing all the different landscapes. I feel like we saw a little of everything.
There were miles of cows along the way! |
We had a fantastic time when we got there. White Sands is pretty much a lot like Jockey's Ridge, just without the water.
Where's the water? |

The great part was someone came up with the genius idea of selling sleds and having kids (or adults in our case) ride down the sand. It was so much fun.
The sand had a layer of ice in the shady areas. It made for a fast sled run. |
We didn't have nearly enough time there before it was time to head back to make it to our Bowl Event that night.
Tonight we had the opportunity to go to Cattleman's Steakhouse. It was beautiful our on this ranch and we were able to explore their "zoo", land and watch the sunset. We had a great time.
They even had a handful of people in costume walking around so we had some fun with them as well.
We finished the evening with music, dancing and fireworks.
Jed & I started off Sunday morning heading out to breakfast with BJ & Katy. Everyone had been telling us to try this particular local restaurant and we figured this was the perfect time to go to Forti's.
It wasn't the breakfast burritos we were looking for (They call them breakfast burritos in this part of Texas, Mathis & Nicki!) but the food was outstanding!
After breakfast, Jed headed off to practice while Derley and I decided to go exploring.
Our first stop was along Rim Rd.
The big, red "X" is by the border of Mexico |
End of the Rocky Mountains Marker |
Then we hopped onto Scenic Dr.
Sun Bowl from Scenic Dr. |
Drove over to the UTEP campus and Home of the Sun Bowl.
Love the architecture |
Then headed back to the hotel. When Jed finished with practice we decided we needed more Mexican food (tamales!!) at Gussies and to go check out Wylie Aerial Tramway.
It was FREEZING at the top, but the views were awesome and we had so much fun.
We got back just in time to hop on the bus to head to El Paso Museum of Art. The Sun Bowl hosted a Mexican Fiesta filled with dancing, face painting, food, drinks and lots of amazing memories.

There just wasn't enough time. We wanted to have more time to enjoy the museum but time flew by and before we knew it we were headed back to the buses to head back to the hotel.
