Green Street Reunion

July 25th - July 27th

This weekend was our annual Green Street camping trip. This year we headed back to Claytor Lake State Park.

Friday night, most of us made it to the camp sites and we enjoyed hanging out, catching up and having dinner together. It wasn't long after dinner was over that the rain started. And it was a significant rain. We all took cover in our tents for a while. A little while later it cleared up and a few of the adults finished the evening around a camp fire.

Most of Saturday was your typical camping Saturday. Cooking breakfast, hanging out at the state park beach, relaxing around the camp site and hanging everything up to dry from the night before.

Saturday evening all was going great. Jeremy received a call from his dad letting us know that a large storm was headed our way. We check maps and forecasts and felt that we were safe for the night so we pack up the cars with the things we knew we weren't need again the next day and enjoyed our evening by the campfire.

EVERYONE that was camping on Saturday night was up stupid early, when the thunder and lightning woke up all of us at 4AM. The entire camp ground was in hurry to pack up and get out. We all woke to load up the last of what we could. One of the things we were loading was our cornhole set. You can imagine my surprise when we went to put it in our car and found a spider hanging out on the back. At first you think, "no big deal, it is just a spider." As Jed and Peter looked just a little closer, they realized it was a black widow spider and a huge sack of spider eggs! I freaked but Peter and Jed remained calm and took care of both mom and babies before finishing the packing.

Thankfully the storm passed beside us so all we got was thunder and lightning and we all kind of went back to sleep for a few more hours.

In the morning, we pull everything back out to make breakfast and right on cue, as soon as we finished the monsoon started. It was hilarious! We were all just soaked. But we weren't going to let a lot of rain stop us. We all headed to Blacksburg to hang out at Mill Mountain Coffee shop for a while before everyone headed home.

This years Green Street Reunion was full of fun, new, rain surprise but we all had a great time and this will definitely be a year we won't forget for a long time.
