It's Thanksgiving

November 22nd - November 25th

What a fun long weekend! It started off on Wednesday when we got to pick up our great friends, Mathis and Nicki from the Roanoke airport. It was so much fun to be able to pick them up and celebrate there return to the 'burg. We were so excited to see them!

To celebrate, we headed to a favorite restaurant, Thelma's Chicken & Waffles. That place is just amazing and with great friends in tow it was perfect. After Thelma's, we hit up a wine shop in Roanoke and headed back to Blacksburg. The rest of the evening we spent getting ready for Thanksgiving. We did a little grocery shopping and prepping food for the next day.

Thanksgiving day was a fun and busy day. We watched a little of the Thanksgiving day parade while we got ready and then headed over to the Racek's for the day. Mathis got up super early so he could start cooking our 20 lb turkey. Mathis is a master smoker and for a bird that big, it was going to take a long time to get it cooked.

We spent the day cooking and hanging out, laughing and catching up on life. It was so much fun to spend time with these families. And just like at every Thanksgiving, the food was amazing and there was WAY too much of it.

Friday was another day to just hang out with friends. The highlights were breakfast at Gillies with Mathis, Nicki and Jed and going to Chateau Morrisette for a wine tasting. It was a beautiful winter day so the 5 of us (Nicki, Mathis, Joe, Lisa and I) headed out along the Blue Ridge Parkway. (Poor Jed has to work) It was another fun day to hang out and make new memories with great friends.

That evening, Tim and Wendy made it back into town from Myrtle Beach for the big game tomorrow.

Saturday morning it turned COLD! But we weren't going to let that stop us for our normal football game rituals. So we loaded up the car and headed out to tailgate. The highlight of the tailgate was by far the Carol Lee's doughnuts as we had a very difficult time cooking in the cold and the wind.

But 3 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of pants, 3 shirts, and 2 sweatshirts later, we were in the stadium cheering on our beloved Hokies. This was a big game, HUGE game. The entire season was on the line. It was our state rival, a win made us bowl eligible and a loss meant we wouldn't make it to a bowl for the first time in 20 years.

It came down to the final seconds like most games this season but they were able to kick the game winning field goal with time expiring for the win. It wasn't a pretty game but it was a win.

After the game it was way too cold to continue to tailgate and wait for Jed to get done with work so we headed to a coffee shoppe, Bollos, to warm up and wait. We were all so excited after the win and headed down to PK's for pizza and more football to celebrate.

Mathis & Nicki, Tim & Wendy, Tom & my mom and Jeremy & Remy all headed back home on Sunday morning but we all had a great holiday weekend.
