A Trip to the Horseshoe

September 5th-7th

The biggest game of the season this year is Ohio State so Derley, Danielle & I had to make the trip. We were really excited about this trip but were a little worried what the fans would be like. We had heard both good and bad things butt when we read this article, we knew it was going to be a fantastic trip. So after work on Friday, we drove up to Columbus, Ohio. Friday evening we spent hanging out in the hotel and grabbing dessert.

Three kinds of pizookies!!

Saturday morning, Jed, Megan, Sophie, Derley, Danielle & I all piled into our car to go explore a little bit. Our first stop was breakfast at First Watch.

It was pretty good and almost everyone was super nice to us. After breakfast we decided to drive around campus to check it all out and then ended our morning adventure with weird fields of corn and Graeter's ice cream.

We dropped off Jed, Megan and Sophie back at the team hotel and Derley, Danielle & I took off to explore more, find parking and get ready for the game. We ended up spending the afternoon exploring campus, meeting some really nice and fun people and learning a lot about all things Ohio State.

Our new Ohio State friends

Derley works with a handful of people that went to Ohio State and they told her she HAD to go to the Skull Session which we did and it was really cool. The old building that they use was super hot and packed an hour before the session. Thankfully we were given a heads up and knew to get there early.

After the skull session, we headed over to the stadium, took a quick walk around it and headed in to the game.

These guys really have a lot of this down to a science. It was all really well done and we had a great time.

The first half was fun and exciting and Derley and I were super excited to watch the TBDBITL at half time.

We were in total and complete shock at the end of the game as the time ticked to 0:00 with the score 35-21 Virginia Tech!

We made all kinds of new friends around us in the Tech section of the game. We were all so excited and shocked at the win.

Steve, Sarah & I
After the game, I was able to meet up with some old friends from Tech that live in Columbus now. But before we headed back to the car, we had to go see the team getting on the bus and cheer them on.

On our way back, we even ran into some band people and they were nice enough to get pictures with us!

Back home they were celebrating in the streets and waited up for the team when they got back at 4am to celebrate with them in Blacksburg. We even considered for a moment driving back immediately but knew that would be a terrible idea. We all hated to miss the parties in Blacksburg but we were pretty excited that we were able to watch the game live and experience the Horseshoe and Ohio State University.

The Tribe

August 30-31st

The spring and summer has flown by and football season has arrived! Our first game of the season was William & Mary in Blacksburg. This game isn't a huge draw for a lot of people out of town so for our first game, it is just the locals.
Bully, Brian, Bradeshaw, Megan, Jed

Tyroid, Rachem & Sophis

Kim, Mallory, Burker

Joe, Suzanne & I

But we all had a great time tailgating, packing up a little early and heading over to the new things Tech is doing on game day like The Village.

The game was a lot of fun and our Hokies look pretty good. We bet the Tribe 34-9.

On Sunday, in typical Castro fashion, we hit the road to go explore and head out of town even if it was just for a few hours.

I have never really explored Lynchburg so we headed in that direction. Unfortunately, there wasn't a ton that was opened or we wondered in the wrong areas but we still had a great time finding random fun stuff.

It was a fun way to start the football season and we are looking forward to many more fun tailgates, friends, football games, road trips and day trips.
